Estados de fe

2020

“States of faith" make up a set of pieces of jewelry that I developed in the context of the pandemic. A time of uncertainty, confusion, and unrest; as well as a time of desires, longings, and hope. In them, I ironize about materiality and representation by altering language. Confusion! Plastic, obtained from the detergent containers necessary for that time when cleaning and asepsis were synonymous with survival; looks like wax. Longing! Faith, having hope, lighting a wax candle, becomes daily consumption: plastic. Belief systems are called into question. We are left with the fragility (or strength) of the human being in his search for transcendent senses, but also for protection against finitude (either by the packaging of detergent or through religious iconography). Within my material and conceptual explorations from the use of waste generated in my daily life, I also put in dialogue with other "consumed", as in the case of the piece entitled Quarantine (Talisman)," made with the peel of fourty oranges squeezed, drunk and sewn by me.
